The ADM485JR is a differential line transceiver designed for high-speed bidirectional data communication on multipoint bus transmission lines. It complies with EIA standards RS-485 and RS-422. The device contains a differential line driver and a differential line receiver, both independently enableable. When disabled, outputs are three-stated.
The ADM485JR operates from a single 5V power supply (4.75V to 5.25V range) and supports data rates up to 5 Mbps. It features a bus common-mode range of -7V to +12V, making it suitable for noisy environments. The driver propagation delay is typically 10 ns, and the receiver propagation delay is typically 15 ns. Thermal shutdown protection prevents damage from bus contention or output short circuits.
The transceiver is available in an 8-SOIC surface-mount package (0.154" width, 3.90mm body width). It is suitable for low-power RS-485 systems, DTE/DCE interfaces, packet switching, local area networks, data concentration, and ISDN applications.
