ADM485JN Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The ADM485JN is a differential line transceiver designed for high-speed bidirectional data communication on multipoint bus transmission lines. It complies with EIA standards RS-485 and RS-422. The device contains a differential line driver and a differential line receiver, both independently enableable.

With a data rate of 5 Mbps and a single 5 V supply, it supports half-duplex communication. The driver and receiver have typical propagation delays of 10 ns and 15 ns, respectively. It features a bus common-mode range of -7 V to +12 V and can support up to 32 transceivers on a bus. The receiver hysteresis is 70 mV.

The ADM485JN includes thermal shutdown protection and short-circuit protection. It also provides high-impedance outputs when power is off. These features make it suitable for robust industrial applications.

The device is available in an 8-pin DIP (0.300" lead spacing) through-hole package, designated as 8-PDIP. Operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C.
