The ADM485ARZ is a low-power transceiver designed for RS-485 and RS-422 communication. It integrates one driver and one receiver in a half-duplex configuration, supporting data rates up to 2.5 Mbps. The device operates from a single 5V supply (4.75V to 5.25V) and draws a typical quiescent supply current of 300 µA when unloaded with drivers disabled.
Key electrical characteristics include a receiver hysteresis of 70 mV, a common-mode input voltage range of -7V to +12V, and typical propagation delays of 30 ns with 5 ns skew. The driver outputs are short-circuit current limited and protected by thermal shutdown. The receiver includes a fail-safe feature that guarantees a logic-high output when the input is open circuit.
