The transceiver supports data rates up to 200 kbps and operates from a single 4.5V to 5.5V power supply.

 

The device uses an on-chip charge pump with small 0.1 µF external capacitors to generate RS-232 bipolar voltage levels from the single supply, eliminating the need for additional power rails. Receiver hysteresis is 400 mV, providing noise immunity on the receive lines. The ADM232AANZ meets EIA-232-E and V.28 specifications, making it suitable for standard RS-232 communication links.

 

The IC is available in a 16-pin DIP package (0.300", 7.62mm) with through-hole mounting, also designated as 16-PDIP. The through-hole package is well suited for prototyping, breadboarding, and applications requiring easy manual assembly.
