The ADE7751ARS from Analog Devices is an energy metering integrated circuit with on-chip fault detection capabilities. It surpasses IEC 687/1036 standards for 50 Hz/60 Hz applications, offering less than 0.1% error over a dynamic range of 500 to 1. This IC continuously monitors phase and neutral currents to detect faults in 2-wire distribution systems, continuing to bill accurately even during a fault condition by using the larger of the two currents.
Designed for direct drive of electromechanical counters and 2-phase stepper motors, the ADE7751ARS features a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) in the current channel, allowing for the use of small shunt and burden resistances. It operates from a single 5V supply with a typical power consumption of 15 mW. The device includes on-chip power supply monitoring and creep protection.
Packaged in a 24-SSOP, the ADE7751ARS is suitable for surface mounting. It operates across a wide temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, ensuring reliable performance in various environmental conditions. The IC provides average real power information on its F1 and F2 frequency outputs and instantaneous real power on its CF output, which is intended for calibration.
