The AD977BRRL is a 16-bit successive approximation ADC from Analog Devices, offering a maximum throughput of 100 kSPS. It operates from a single 5V supply with a maximum power dissipation of 100 mW, and includes a power-down mode that reduces dissipation to 50 µW. The ADC incorporates an internal 2.5V reference and an on-chip clock, supporting both unipolar and bipolar input ranges. Unipolar ranges include 0-10V, 0-5V, and 0-4V, while bipolar ranges include ±10V, ±5V, and ±3.3V.
The device uses a high-speed SPI serial interface for data transfer, making it suitable for integration with microcontrollers and DSPs. The AD977BRRL is specified for the industrial temperature range of -40°C to 85°C and is available in a 20-SOIC surface-mount package. Typical applications include automatic test equipment, process control, and industrial automation where high resolution and moderate speed are required.
The ADC is factory calibrated to minimize linearity errors, and its performance is guaranteed over the full operating range. The small 20-SOIC package enables compact PCB designs, and the single-supply operation simplifies power supply design.
