AD8450ASTZ-RL Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The AD8450ASTZ-RL from Analog Devices is a precision analog front end (AFE) designed for testing and monitoring battery cells. This controller integrates a precision programmable gain instrumentation amplifier (PGIA) for measuring battery charge/discharge current and a programmable gain difference amplifier (PGDA) for measuring battery voltage. Internal laser-trimmed resistor networks ensure optimal performance across the rated temperature range of -40 °C to 85 °C.

The device supports constant voltage (CV) and constant current (CC) values set by voltages at the ISET and VSET inputs, with automatic and transparent CC to CV switching. A TTL level logic input, MODE, allows selection between charge and discharge modes. The AD8450ASTZ-RL includes resistor-programmable overvoltage and overcurrent detection, as well as current sharing circuitry for balancing charge among multiple batteries.

Packaged in an 80-pin LQFP with dimensions of 14.2 x 14.2 x 1.45 mm, this component is suitable for surface mounting. It operates with a supply voltage ranging from 5V to 36V and offers an output voltage of 2.5V with an output current of 10 mA. Key electrical characteristics include a common mode rejection ratio of 110 dB, an input capacitance of 4 pF, a gain bandwidth product of 20 MHz, and an input impedance of 100 GΩ.
