The AD7980ACPZ-RL7 is a 16-bit successive approximation (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) from Analog Devices. It offers a maximum sampling rate of 1 MSPS with zero latency architecture. The device operates from a single 2.5 V supply and supports external reference voltages from 2.5 V to 5 V. It features a pseudo-differential analog input range of 0 V to VREF.
The ADC achieves excellent dynamic performance with a typical SNR of 91.5 dB and THD of -114 dB at 10 kHz input frequency. The integral nonlinearity (INL) is ±0.6 LSB typical and ±1.25 LSB maximum. Power dissipation is only 4 mW (VDD only) at 1 MSPS, scaling to 70 µW at 10 kSPS.
The device is housed in a 10-lead LFCSP (3 mm × 3 mm) package with an exposed pad, suitable for surface mount assembly. It operates over the industrial temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The serial interface is compatible with SPI, QSPI, MICROWIRE, and DSP, and supports daisy-chaining of multiple ADCs. The AD7980 is ideal for applications requiring high accuracy and low power, such as automated test equipment, data acquisition systems, and medical instruments.
