The AD7943BNZ is a 12-bit multiplying digital-to-analog converter (DAC) from Analog Devices. It uses a serial data interface and an R-2R architecture to provide a current-unbuffered output. The device operates from a single 5V supply and typically dissipates only 5 mW of power.
Key electrical specifications include a typical settling time of 600 µs, integral nonlinearity (INL) and differential nonlinearity (DNL) of ±0.5 LSB maximum, and guaranteed monotonic performance over the full operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. An external voltage reference is required, and the reference input resistance ranges from 6 kΩ minimum to 12 kΩ maximum.
The AD7943BNZ is housed in a 16-lead plastic DIP (PDIP) package with through-hole mounting. It is designed for battery-powered instrumentation, laptop computers, and as a drop-in upgrade for 754x series DACs in 5V designs. The serial interface allows easy connection to microcontrollers and DSPs with minimal pin count.
