The AD7878JP is a complete 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) from Analog Devices, capable of sampling at 100 kSPS (100 kHz). It integrates a track/hold amplifier with 2 µs acquisition time, a 7 µs A/D converter, a 3 V Zener reference, and an 8-word FIFO, providing a self-contained data acquisition solution for high-speed DSP applications.
The device accepts a bipolar analog input of ±3 V and achieves a typical signal-to-noise ratio of 72 dB with a 10 kHz input tone. The internal track/hold amplifier features a 2 µs acquisition time, and the converter completes a conversion in 7 µs. Full power bandwidth is 50 kHz, allowing direct conversion of full-scale signals up to that frequency. The FIFO enables up to eight samples to be stored before the host processor must read data, with a maximum data access time of 41 ns for direct interface to high-speed DSPs and 16-bit microprocessors. Typical power dissipation is only 60 mW.
The AD7878JP is offered in a 28-pin PLCC (LCC) surface-mount package with J-leads, measuring 11.51 mm x 11.51 mm, and is intended for operation over the commercial temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. The DSP interface supports SPI and DSP-compatible serial protocols, making it suitable for digital signal processing, speech recognition, spectrum analysis, and high-speed modem applications.
