The AD694BR from Analog Devices is a monolithic current transmitter designed for industrial process control applications. It accepts high-level voltage signal inputs and drives a standard 4-20mA current loop, with an additional 0-20mA programmable range. Precalibrated input spans of 0V to 2V and 0V to 10V are selectable via pin strapping, while other spans can be programmed with external resistors.
Operating from a single supply ranging from 4.5V to 36V, the device features wide output compliance to within 2V of the supply voltage. Typical nonlinearity is just 0.002%, ensuring high accuracy without external calibration. An input buffer amplifier allows signal scaling or buffering from a current-mode DAC. The AD694 also includes an open-loop alarm to detect a broken 4-20mA loop or output stage noncompliance.
The device is available in a 16-SOIC (0.295", 7.50mm width) surface-mount package, rated for operation from -40°C to 85°C. Active laser trimming of thin-film resistors delivers precision performance. For applications requiring reduced self-heating, an optional external pass transistor can be used to off-load power dissipation.
