The AD637KQ from Analog Devices is a complete, high-accuracy RMS-to-DC converter designed to compute the true RMS value of any complex waveform. It offers performance comparable to discrete and modular techniques in accuracy, bandwidth, and dynamic range.
This converter computes the true root mean square, mean square, or absolute value of AC or AC plus DC input waveforms, providing an equivalent DC output voltage. The true RMS value is directly related to signal power. Superior crest factor compensation allows measurements of signals with crest factors up to 10 with less than 1% additional error.
The AD637KQ boasts a wide bandwidth, capable of measuring signals up to 8 MHz at input levels above 1 V rms, and up to 600 kHz with inputs of 200 mV rms. It also features a direct dB output with a 60 dB range. The device is available in a 14-CERDIP through-hole package.
A chip select/power-down feature reduces quiescent current from 2.2 mA to 350 µA when the RMS function is not in use, making it suitable for low-power applications. The input circuitry is protected from overload voltages exceeding supply levels.
