The AD536ASH from Analog Devices is a complete monolithic integrated circuit designed for true RMS-to-DC conversion. This device accurately computes the RMS value of any complex input waveform containing both AC and DC components. It features laser trimming for high accuracy, with a maximum error of ±0.2% for the AD536AK grade and ±0.5% for the AD536AJ grade.
The converter offers a wide response capability, computing the RMS of AC and DC signals. It has a bandwidth of 450 kHz for Vrms > 100 mV and 2 MHz for Vrms > 1 V. A crest factor compensation scheme allows for measurements with 1% error at crest factors up to 7. An auxiliary dB output pin provides a 60 dB dynamic range for dB conversion.
Designed for single- or dual-supply operation, the AD536ASH operates within a voltage range of 5V to 36V or ±3V to ±18V. It has a low quiescent current of 1.2 mA. The device is available in a TO-100-10 metal can package and is suitable for through-hole mounting.
This IC is suitable for applications requiring precise RMS measurements of complex waveforms. Its features include input and output protection, with the input circuitry capable of handling overload voltages beyond supply levels and the output being short-circuit protected.
