The AD2S83IP is a monolithic variable resolution resolver-to-digital (R/D) converter from Analog Devices. It converts resolver format input signals into a parallel natural binary digital word using a ratiometric tracking conversion method. The converter allows users to select their own resolution (10, 12, 14, or 16 bits) and dynamic performance with external components. It tracks resolver signals rotating at up to 1040 revolutions per second (62,400 rpm) when set to 10-bit resolution, and operates over reference frequencies from 0 Hz to 20,000 Hz.
Electrical performance includes a precision analog velocity output with typical linearity of ±0.1% and reversion error less than ±0.3%. The device draws a supply current of 30 mA and provides a digital output via 3-state pins configurable for 8- or 16-bit bus interfaces. The ratiometric tracking conversion ensures high noise immunity and tolerance of long leads, allowing remote placement from the resolver.
The AD2S83IP is supplied in a 44-lead PLCC (J-Lead) package with dimensions 16.59x16.59 mm, suitable for surface mount assembly. It operates over the industrial temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. The converter is ideal for applications requiring high accuracy position and velocity feedback in servo systems, motor control, and industrial automation.
