AD1837AAS Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The AD1837AAS is a 24-bit stereo audio codec from Analog Devices integrating two analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and eight digital-to-analog converters (DACs). It supports sample rates up to 96 kHz on all DACs and 192 kHz on a single DAC, with 16-, 20-, or 24-bit word lengths. The device employs multibit sigma-delta modulators with perfect differential linearity restoration to reduce idle tones and noise floor, and data directed scrambling DACs for low jitter sensitivity.

Key electrical specifications include 105 dB SNR and dynamic range for the ADCs, 108 dB SNR for the DACs, THD+N of -95 dB (ADC) and -92 dB (DAC). The codec operates from a 4.5V to 5.5V analog supply with a 3.3V tolerant digital interface. It features on-chip volume controls per channel with 1024-step linear scale, clickless mutes, and digital de-emphasis processing. Master clock frequencies of 256, 512, or 768 fS are supported.

The AD1837AAS is housed in a 52-lead MQFP (10x10 mm) surface mount package. It includes flexible serial data port modes (right-justified, left-justified, I2S compatible, DSP serial port) and a TDM interface mode supporting 8 inputs and 8 outputs via a single SHARC SPORT. Power-down and soft power-down modes are available. Typical applications include DVD players, home theater systems, automotive audio, A/V receivers, and digital audio effects processors.
