The AAT3697 BatteryManager from Skyworks Solutions is a highly integrated IC designed for charging single-cell lithium-ion/polymer batteries using AC adapter inputs. It requires minimal external components and precisely regulates battery charge voltage and current for 4.2V cells.

This charger IC can be programmed for adapter charge current rates up to 2.0A. It features an active thermal management system that regulates the fast charge constant current under various ambient temperature and input/output voltage conditions. The device includes comprehensive monitoring for battery temperature and charge state, with automatic shutdown for over-voltage or over-temperature fault conditions to protect the system and battery.

Status monitor output pins are provided for directly driving two external LEDs to indicate battery charge status. A serial interface output is also available for reporting 12 different charging status states to a microcontroller. The AAT3697 is available in a Pb-free, thermally-enhanced, 12-pin TDFN 3x3mm package and operates over a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

Key features include over-voltage, over-current, and over-temperature protection, automatic recharge sequencing, and full battery charge auto turn-off/sleep mode. It is suitable for applications such as cellular telephones, digital still cameras, handheld PCs, MP3 players, and other lithium-ion/polymer battery-powered devices.
