The Allegro Microsystems A8904SLB is a 3-phase brushless DC motor controller/driver designed for applications requiring precise control of high-speed motors. It utilizes N-channel DMOS half-bridge outputs capable of driving up to 1.2 A.
This device integrates self-contained back EMF sensing, motor start-up, and running algorithms. A programmable digital frequency-locked loop speed control circuit, combined with linear current control, ensures accurate motor speed regulation. The serial port interface allows for programming of speed control parameters, start-up current limit, sleep mode, direction, and diagnostic modes.
The A8904SLB is fabricated using Allegro's BCD process, which combines bipolar, analog, and digital CMOS with DMOS power devices. It is available in a 24-pin wide-body SOIC package (LB) with internally fused leads for enhanced thermal dissipation, or a 28-pin TSSOP package (LP) with an exposed thermal pad.
