The Allegro Microsystems A8501ELPTR-T is a multi-output WLED/RGB driver designed for backlighting medium-size displays. It integrates a boost converter and four 100 mA current sinks, with channels that can be tied together for up to 400 mA sink capability. The device operates from a single power supply ranging from 6.8 V to 21 V and can withstand up to 40 V.
Key features include a constant frequency, current-mode boost converter that can operate at 2 MHz to avoid interference with the AM radio band. PWM dimming allows for precise control of LED currents with a high dimming ratio. The A8501 also provides protection against output connector shorts through an integrated output disconnect switch. An optional external thermistor can be used to limit LED current based on panel temperature.
This device is supplied in a surface mount, 28-pin TSSOP package with an exposed thermal pad for enhanced thermal dissipation. It is important to note that this part is no longer in production and should not be purchased for new design applications. For new designs, refer to the ALT80600.
