The A6214KLKTR-T from Allegro Microsystems is an automotive-grade, single-IC switching regulator that provides a constant-current output for driving high-power LEDs. It integrates a high-side N-channel DMOS switch for DC-to-DC step-down (buck) conversion, utilizing a cycle-by-cycle controlled on-time method for true average current output.

This LED driver supports a supply voltage range of 4.5V to 55V and can deliver up to 2A of output current. The output current is user-selectable via an external current sense resistor, and the output voltage automatically adjusts to drive various numbers of LEDs in a single string, ensuring optimal system efficiency. Dimming is accomplished through a direct logic input pulse-width modulation (PWM) signal or an analog dimming input for brightness calibration and thermal foldback.

Designed for automotive applications, the A6214KLKTR-T is provided in a compact 10-pin narrow SOIC package with an exposed pad for enhanced thermal dissipation. It features integrated protection against various faults, including LED string open and short protection, cycle-by-cycle current limit, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), and thermal shutdown (TSD).
