The A4942GESTR-T from Allegro MicroSystems is a three-phase motor driver designed for sensorless fan applications, eliminating the need for Hall sensors through BEMF sensing.
This integrated circuit incorporates a closed-loop speed control system, allowing for accurate setting of maximum and minimum speeds via external resistors. Speed is managed by a duty cycle demand applied to the PWM input, which supports a wide frequency range. Integrated current limiting negates the need for an external sense resistor and includes an adjustable soft start feature to minimize power supply load during fan ramp-up.
The A4942GESTR-T is supplied in a 20-contact 4 mm × 4 mm QFN package with an exposed pad for enhanced thermal dissipation. The package is lead (Pb) free with 100% matte tin leadframe plating. It operates within a temperature range of -40°C to 105°C (TA).
Key features include sensorless operation, PWM speed input, FG speed output, lock detection, soft start, and overcurrent protection. Soft switching is employed to reduce audible noise.
