The Allegro MicroSystems A3992SLPTR-T is a DMOS Dual Full-Bridge Microstepping PWM Motor Driver designed for bipolar microstepped stepper motors. It provides continuous output currents of up to ±1.5A and can operate at voltages up to 50V.
This driver features internal fixed off-time PWM current control circuitry that can be programmed for slow, fast, or mixed decay modes via a serial interface. Load current is set using two six-bit linear DACs, allowing for precise torque control across various step methods, including microstepping and full stepping. Load current is set in 1.56% increments of the maximum value.
Synchronous rectification circuitry is integrated to allow load current to flow through the low RDS(on) of the DMOS output driver during current decay, minimizing power dissipation and often eliminating the need for external clamp diodes. Internal circuit protection includes short-to-ground, shorted load, thermal shutdown with hysteresis, and crossover current protection.
The A3992SLPTR-T is supplied in a 24-pin TSSOP package with an exposed thermal pad. The package is lead-free with 100% matte tin leadframe plating. Inputs are compatible with 5V or 3.3V control signals, and the device includes sleep and idle modes.
