The Allegro MicroSystems A3979SLPTR-T is a complete microstepping motor driver with a built-in translator, designed for bipolar stepper motors. It supports full, half, quarter, and sixteenth-step modes, providing enhanced microstepping precision.

 

This driver features an output drive capacity of up to 35 V and ±2.5 A, with low RDS(On) outputs. It includes a fixed off-time current regulator with selectable Slow, Fast, or Mixed decay modes, which helps reduce audible motor noise, increase step accuracy, and lower power dissipation. The translator simplifies implementation, allowing motor control with simple STEP pin pulses.

 

Internal circuitry includes synchronous rectification for improved power dissipation during PWM operation, along with protection features such as thermal shutdown with hysteresis, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), and crossover-current protection. The A3979 is supplied in a 28-pin TSSOP package with an exposed thermal pad, suitable for surface mounting.

 

Its interface is designed for applications where a complex microprocessor may be unavailable or overburdened. The logic supply voltage range is 3.0 to 5.5 V.
