The Philips 8574T is a versatile IO Expander designed for general-purpose remote I/O expansion using a two-wire I2C-bus. It operates within a supply voltage range of 2.5V to 6V and supports a 100kHz I2C interface, making it suitable for a wide array of applications.
This device features eight quasi-bidirectional ports that can be independently configured as inputs or outputs. The latched output ports are capable of directly driving LEDs, and the device offers a total package sink capability of 80 mA. A key benefit is its low standby current of 2.5 µA typical, which is ideal for mobile applications.
The 8574T includes three hardware address pins, allowing up to eight devices to be connected on the same I2C-bus, thus enabling the expansion of up to 128 I/Os. It also provides an active LOW open-drain interrupt output that can signal a microcontroller when an input state changes, reducing the need for continuous polling.
Packaged in an SSOP20 format, the 8574T is designed for surface mounting and operates within a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
