The 3M 8540-4500PL is a 40 position, 2-row polarized boardmount socket from the 8500 series. It features a 2.54mm (0.100") pitch and 2.54mm row spacing, with through hole termination and kinked pin solder tails. The contact area is plated with 0.3µm gold over 2µm nickel underplating, ensuring reliable electrical connections. The glass filled polyester (PBT) insulation is rated UL94 V-0 and comes in gray. A centerbump polarization key ensures correct mating with low profile shrouded headers.
Electrically, the receptacle is rated for 1A current and 1000V voltage, with insulation resistance greater than 1×10^9Ω at 500VDC and withstanding voltage of 1000VRMS at sea level. The operating temperature range is -55°C to 105°C, and it can withstand wave soldering at 260°C for 10 seconds or soldering iron at 390°C for 3 seconds. The push-pull fastening type and board retention feature make it suitable for both board-to-board and cable applications.
