The 74VHC595M from ON Semiconductor is an advanced high-speed CMOS shift register. It features an 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out shift register that feeds an 8-bit D-type storage register with eight 3-STATE outputs. Separate clocks are provided for the shift register and the storage register, both utilizing positive-edge triggering.
This device achieves high-speed operation while maintaining low CMOS power dissipation. It is fabricated with silicon gate CMOS technology and includes an input protection circuit that allows 0 V to 5.5 V to be applied to the input pins without regard to the supply voltage, enabling interface between 5 V and 3 V systems. The 74VHC595M is pin and function compatible with the 74HC595.
Designed for surface mounting, the 74VHC595M comes in a 16-SOIC package (0.154", 3.90mm Width). It operates over a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C and supports a supply voltage range of 2V to 5.5V. The shift register has a direct-overriding clear, serial input, and serial output pins for cascading.
