The 3M GTE6112 is a grey acrylic foam tape laminated on both sides with a special TX-1 adhesive, formulated for low energy substrates. This tape is suitable for attaching polypropylene parts to polypropylene surfaces, commonly used for body side mouldings or bumpers without the need for priming or pre-treatment. Typical applications include the attachment of park sensors, washer devices, or other interior trim parts like electronic devices.
Key characteristics of the GTE6112 include very high peel adhesion to low energy surfaces such as PP, PMMA, and powder paints. It possesses high internal strength, excellent long-term durability, and very high conformability to the bonded substrates. A notable property is its stress relaxation capability, which contributes to a very durable bond. The tape has a thickness of 1.1 mm ± 0.15 mm and a width tolerance of ± 0.4 mm.
The construction consists of a viscoelastic acrylic foam core and TX-1 acrylate adhesive on both sides. It can withstand temperatures ranging from -40°C to +90°C, with a short-term resistance up to 120°C. The tape is available with either a red polyethylene foil liner (siliconized on both sides) or a white paper liner (siliconized on both sides).
