The 3M 4840-6000-CP is a 40-position DIP socket from the 4800 series, designed for through-hole mounting with standard 2.54mm (0.100 inch) pitch and 0.6 inch (15.24mm) row spacing. It features an open frame construction with dual-wipe, high compression contacts made of phosphor bronze with a matte tin plating over nickel underplating.
Electrical specifications include a current rating of 1A, insulation resistance of 5,000 MΩ at 500V DC, and withstanding voltage of 100V AC for 1 minute. The socket operates over a temperature range of -25°C to +85°C and is rated for wave solder reflow up to 260°C.
Mechanical characteristics include an insertion force of 340 grams maximum per contact and withdrawal force of 80 grams minimum per contact. Acceptable pin diameters range from 0.25mm to 0.27mm and pin lengths from 2.54mm to 3.30mm. The housing is made of glass-filled polyester with UL 94V-0 flammability rating.
This socket is suitable for use with standard DIP ICs and can be used in automated insertion equipment. It is side and end stackable for flexible PCB layouts. RoHS compliant per RIA E1 and C1.
