The 40EPS08 is part of Vishay's SAFEIR series of standard rectifier diodes optimized for very low forward voltage drop with moderate leakage. Utilizing glass passivation technology, it ensures reliable operation up to 150°C junction temperature.
Key electrical specifications include a maximum average forward current of 40A at 105°C case temperature with 180° conduction half sine wave, a repetitive peak reverse voltage of 800V, and a non-repetitive peak reverse voltage of 900V. The forward voltage drop is typically 1.1V at 40A and 25°C junction temperature. The device can handle a non-repetitive surge current of 475A (10ms sine pulse, no voltage reapplied) and offers an I²t rating of 800 A²s (with rated VRRM applied).
The diode is housed in a through-hole TO-247AC (Modified) package, which is compatible with International Rectifier switches and output rectifiers in identical outlines. Thermal characteristics include a junction-to-case thermal resistance of 0.6°C/W (DC operation) and a junction-to-ambient thermal resistance of 40°C/W. Mounting torque should be between 6 and 12 kg-cm. Typical applications include input rectification in power supplies and general purpose high current rectification.
