The 3M Scotch Vinyl Electrical Tape 22 is a professional-grade, 10-mil thick electrical insulating tape. It features a black elastic vinyl (PVC) film backing coated with a non-corrosive, rubber-based pressure-sensitive adhesive.
This tape is commonly used for primary insulation on applications up to 600V at a maximum temperature of 80°C (176°F) on joints and splices in wires and cables, in accordance with NFPA 70, National Electrical Code. It also meets CSA C22.2 No.197 standards for primary insulation up to 1000V at a maximum temperature of 80°C (176°F) and a minimum temperature of -7°C (19°F).
Applications include residential, commercial, and industrial environments where flame retardant rating is required. It serves as cable jacket repair and provides mechanical protection when overwrapping other tapes. The tape is also suitable for harnessing and bundling of wires and cables. It offers moisture resistance and compatibility with most solid dielectric cable insulations.
The tape has a minimum tensile strength of 2400 psi and a minimum elongation of 150%. Its dielectric strength is a minimum of 1000 V/mil, and insulation resistance is a minimum of 1x10^12 ohms.
