This Pololu 2121 is a versatile DC-DC converter module utilizing a Single-Ended Primary-Inductor Converter (SEPIC) topology. It is designed to provide a fixed 5V output with 4% accuracy, capable of supplying up to 400mA in typical applications. The wide input voltage range, from 2.5V to 18V, makes it particularly suitable for battery-powered devices where voltage can fluctuate significantly.
The module's compact size (14.7mm x 10.2mm x 2.5mm) and through-hole mounting make it easy to integrate into various electronic designs. It features an over-temperature shutoff for protection against overheating and a low quiescent current of less than 2mA when not under load. The SEPIC design allows it to efficiently step up or step down the input voltage, offering flexibility for applications that require a stable 5V supply from sources that may be higher or lower than the desired output.
This regulator is ideal for applications where battery voltage varies, such as using alkaline or NiMH cells that discharge below 5V. It also allows disposable 9V batteries to be discharged to a lower voltage than typically possible with linear regulators. The module includes an enable pin for power control and is designed for ITE (Commercial) applications.
