The 1N5908 from ON Semiconductor is a 1500W unidirectional Zener transient voltage suppressor designed to protect voltage sensitive components from high voltage, high-energy transients. It features a working peak reverse voltage of 5V, a minimum breakdown voltage of 6.0V at 1mA, and a maximum clamping voltage of 8.5V at 120A peak pulse current. The device offers a peak pulse power rating of 1500W for a 1ms non-repetitive pulse and a forward surge current capability of 200A (8.3ms half-sine wave). Response time is typically less than 1ns, making it suitable for fast transient protection.
This TVS diode is housed in a void-free, transfer-molded plastic DO-201AD axial leaded package and is intended for through-hole mounting. The cathode is indicated by a polarity band. It can operate over a junction temperature range of -65°C to 175°C and has a steady state power dissipation of 5W at a lead temperature of 75°C. The device is commonly used in communication systems, numerical controls, process controls, medical equipment, business machines, and power supplies to protect CMOS, MOS, and bipolar integrated circuits.
