The 1N5638 is a 1500W unidirectional transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode from Microchip Technology's 1N5629-1N5665 series. It is designed to protect sensitive electronic circuits from voltage transients caused by inductive switching, RF effects, and secondary lightning effects as defined in IEC61000-4-5. With a peak pulse power rating of 1500W at 10/1000µs, it clamps transients in less than 100 picoseconds, providing effective protection against ESD (IEC 61000-4-2) and EFT (IEC 61000-4-4) events. The device offers a reverse standoff voltage of 23.5V and a peak pulse current capability of 64A. Housed in a hermetically sealed DO-13 (DO-202AA) through-hole metal package, it operates over a junction temperature range of -65°C to 175°C, making it suitable for harsh environments including airborne avionics and industrial control systems.
This part is part of a JEDEC-registered series and is available with military qualifications (JAN, JANTX, JANTXV) for the tighter tolerance 'A' suffix versions. Mounting is through-hole, providing robust mechanical attachment. While this series is unidirectional, bidirectional options are available in the same package. The 1N5638 is a commercial-grade device and does not include power line protection; it is intended for general-purpose transient suppression in low-to-medium surge applications.
The reverse standoff voltage (VRWM) is 23.5V.
The peak pulse power (PPP) is 1500W at 10/1000µs.
It comes in a DO-13 (DO-202AA) through-hole package.
The peak pulse current (IPP) is 64A.
It clamps transients in less than 100 picoseconds.
The operating temperature range is -65°C to 175°C.
