The 15KPA78A is a unidirectional TVS diode from Littelfuse Inc., part of the 15KPA series. It is designed to protect sensitive electronic circuits from voltage transients induced by lightning and other transient events. This device features a glass passivated chip junction in a P600 Axial package.

With a reverse standoff voltage of 78V, the 15KPA78A begins conduction at breakdown (typically 86.7-95.8V) and clamps transients to 126.1V. It can handle peak pulse power of 15kW (10/1000µs waveform) and peak pulse current of 119.7A. The response time is typically less than 1.0ps from 0V to breakdown voltage. Steady state power dissipation is 8.0W, and the operating junction temperature range is -55°C to 175°C.

This TVS diode is suitable for general purpose transient voltage protection, including I/O interfaces, VCC bus, and other vulnerable circuits in telecom, computer, industrial, and consumer electronic applications. It provides ESD protection in accordance with IEC 61000-4-2 (30kV air/contact) and EFT protection per IEC 61000-4-4. The device has low incremental surge resistance and typical reverse leakage current less than 2µA.

The 15KPA78A is offered in a through-hole P600 Axial package with axial leads, suitable for soldering. It is halogen-free and lead-free with matte tin plating, meeting Pb-free E3 requirements. The device is UL recognized (file number E230531).
